ICAR-NBPGR and MoEF&CC organized the Consultative Workshop on Harmonization of LMO/GM Detection Activities in the Country on 21st August, 2017

The Consultative Workshop on Harmonization of LMO/GM Detection Activities in the Country was organized at ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi, which was sponsored by the UNEP-GEF Capacity Building Phase-II Project on Biosafety and facilitated by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Govt. of India. Dr. Madhumita Biswas, Adviser, MoEF&CC was the chief guest. Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Director, ICAR-NBPGR and Coordinator of the Workshop, welcomed the delegates from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and other GM detection laboratories, and gave an overview of the institute. Dr. Gurinderjit Randhawa, Principal Scientist and Convener of the Workshop, presented the background of Workshop and Networking of GM detection laboratories in the country. The NABL assessors/representatives, including Mr. Ashutosh Tatwawadi, Mr. Vinay Tyagi, Mr. Soundira Pandian, Mr. Amit Kumar; Dr. V.R. Subramaniam from Jain Irrigation, Jalgaon; and Mr. Surender Pal from Tilda Riceland Pvt. Ltd., Gurgaon, gave an overview of NABL requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and NABL102 in light of GM detection, and shared their experiences. The GM detection laboratory representatives, including Dr. Ajit Dua and Dr. Vandana from Punjab Biotechnology Incubator, Mohali; Dr. Lijo John, Export Inspection Agency, Kochi; Dr. Jaya Krishna, DFTCML, Hyderabad; and Dr. Monika Singh, ICAR-NBPGR shared their view points on NABL102 document. Dr. Lijo and Dr Vandana delivered the overview of different modules on the Draft Training Manual on GM Detection. Two Panel Discussions on ‘Evolving Issues related with ISO/IEC 17025:2005’ and ‘Draft Training Manual on LMO Detection’ were held, which were moderated by Dr. Gurinderjit Randhawa and Dr. Ajit Dua. During the closure of program, Dr. Monika Singh, Scientist and Co-convener of the Workshop, gave formal vote of thanks and Dr. Gurinder Jit Randhawa wrapped up the session.
