ICAR- NBPGR Regional Station Shillong, Umiam participated in North East Zone Regional Agri Fair 2018 during January 06-09, 2018

The Regional Station participated in North East Zone Regional Agri Fair held at ICAR RC for NEHR, Umiam during January 06-09, 2018. Shri Radha Mohan Singh Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of India inaugurated a four days Agri-Fair with the theme “Drive to doubling income of Tribal Farmers in the North East India” today. Addressing the august gathering Shri Singh said the government has initiated various flagship programmes for the welfare of the people living in the rural areas, especially the farming communities focusing mainly to double the farmers’ income from agriculture and allied sectors. He lauded the efforts of ICAR in launching the programme in NEH region to double the income of the farmers on a pilot basis in the villages adopted by them in the next five years. it was attended by more than 1000 farmers from NEH region. Honourable Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare also visited Regional Station Stall and showed keen interest in the biodiversity displayed.

The Regional Agriculture Fair during the four days gave special focus on finding ways and solutions to sustain income security from prevalent traditional form of agriculture and also initiate the revolution of doubling the farmers' income in the NE region. There was a brain storming sessions on doubling farmers’ income during the Fair.
