ICAR-NBPGR Co-organized a National workshop on “Decentralized seed systems for climate resilient rainfed agriculture” at National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad

A National workshop on “Decentralized seed systems for climate resilient rainfed agriculture” organized by MANAGE, WASSAN, Bioversity International, ICAR-NBPGR, ANGRAU, PJTSAU and others during 08-09, March 2018 at National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. The objectives of this National workshop are

  • Arrive at features of a supportive seed system for climate resilience and growth in rainfed agriculture
  • Sharing and synthesis of experiences on seed systems across rainfed regions of India
  • Evolve an operational framework for instituting seed systems for rainfed agriculture through “Public-People-Partnership”
  • Recommend necessary policy changes

Stakeholders with experience from 10 states representing government state seed corporations, research, civil society and farmers are participated in the National workshop. Smt. V. Usha Rani, IAS, Director General, MANAGE inaugurated the workshop. Sessions on public sector seed systems, learning from experiences, designing an appropriate seed systems for climate resilient rainfed agriculture and policy requirements for instituting an appropriate seed systems for climate resilient rainfed agriculture conducted including a group activity on re-working on public seed systems in partnership with community for rainfed areas. Scientists from ICAR-NBPGR Regional Station, Hyderabad participated in the two-day proceedings and Dr N Sivaraj, Principal Scientist presented experiences on “Identification, characterization, selections and multiplication of local cultivars-NBPGR, ANGRAU and Farmers’ Organisation’s experience under RKVY” on 08.03.2018.
