Parthenium awareness programme celebrated at ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi

The Parthenium awareness programme was celebrated on 23 August, 2018 at ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi. In this program Dr. SC Dubey, Head Division of Plant Quarantine and Dr. Mool Chand Singh, Principal Scientist (Weed Science), Division of Plant Quarantine briefed about its introduction, characteristics and ill effects. Parthenium has become one of the rampant weeds throughout the globe causing enormous damage to agricultural productivity. In India, it has assumed serious proportions in the cropped and non-cropped lands, city dwellings, rail roadsides and also in institutional areas spoiling the aesthetic, recreational and utility value of the surroundings. Management of this obnoxious weed requires collective and continuous efforts through awareness and adoption of integrated approach. Subsequently Prof. (Dr.) Kuldeep Singh, Director, ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi lead the entire staff of the institute to participate in this activity as a component of “Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan” to ensure a “Parthenium-free campus. The ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi is now a “Parthenium-free campus”. The entire program was coordinated by Dr. Kavita Gupta, Principal Scientist and Officer-In-Charge, PME and Dr. Mool Chand Singh, Principal Scientist (Weed Science), ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi. At last Prof. (Dr.) Kuldeep Singh, Director, ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi expressed his gratitude towards entire staff for their efforts in making Bureau a “Parthenium-free campus”.
