PGR Awareness Camp on Promotion and Conservation of Traditional Crops Organized at Kaza Distt Lahual & Spiti, Himachal Pradesh on dated 25.10.2018, under TSP

One day PGR awareness camp on promotion and conservation of traditional crops was organized on 25th October 2018 at Kaza District Lahual & Spiti of Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Taboo-II, Lahual & Spiti Himachal Pradesh. A total of 340 tribal farmers of Spiti valley attended this awareness camp. The prime aim of this programme was to bring awareness among farming community on the benefits of plant genetic resources including crop landraces which are being maintained by the farmers and facilitating registration of Farmers’ Varieties. The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Spiti, Dr. Vikram Singh Negi was the chief guest. Dr Sudhir Verma, Programme Co-ordinator of KVK welcomed dignitaries and participants. Dr Mohar Singh, Principal Scientist of NBPGR Shimla mentioned about the significance of traditional crops under changing climate scenario and set the stage for audience. Dr K.D. Sharma, Professor UHF Nauni Solan emphasized the role of traditional crops in nutritional security and functional food as well. In this programme, farmer kits containing seed materials, pesticides and literature was also distributed to each participant. Finally, chief guest has also emphasized the use of traditional crops in food and nutritional security. At the end, interactive session was arranged and all questions raised by the farmers were replied upto their satisfaction. The programme was ended with the vote of thanks.
