National Training Course on 'Contemporary Approaches to PGR Management' inaugurated at ICAR-NBPGR

Dr D.K. Yadava, ADG (Seed), inaugurated as Chief Guest, a National Training Course on ‘Contemporary Approaches to PGR Management’, organized by ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR), New Delhi, on November, 27, 2018.
Dr S.K.Kaushik,Course Director, in his introductory speech briefed about the training program which was being attended by 14 participants fromdifferent institutes of ICAR, SAU, and hailing from 9 states across India. In all, 75 resource persons from ICAR, NBPGR, IARI, PPV&FRA, Bioversity International, Delhi, IIMR, Hyderabad would be providing training during the three weeks program from November 27 to December 17, 2018. Dr Kuldeep Singh, Director, NBPGR appreciated the initiative taken by NBPGR to hold the training which would help in developing competencies in this important subject. He also apprised the importance of PGR for crop improvement and need for all plant breeders in ICAR to have mandatory training on PGR management for effective utilization.
During the inaugural speech Dr D.K. Yadava, emphasized the importance of the holding trainings program and supported the view of Director, ICAR-NBPGR, on mandatory training program on PGR for the plant breeders in ICAR system. He also emphasized that importance of IPR knowledge and procedural system for registration of germplasm should be known by the breeders. He also suggested that trainees to act as future ambassadors and potential partners in PGR activities. He urged that efforts should be made to ensure that every trainee should contribute into the system, and the period of training does not go unutilized in the long-run. The inaugural function concluded by a vote of thanks from Dr. S. Rajkumar, Course Co-ordinator.
