Training under TSP

ICAR-NBPGR RS Thrissur arranged training cum planting material distribution program on “Enhancing livelihood options of flood affected tribal hamlets in Wayanad district through on-farm conservation of native crop germplasm” under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) in three tribal hamlets of Wayanad district on 10 March 2019 with an aim to promote on-farm conservation of landraces in agricultural landscape and enhancing livelihood options through bitterless Momordica cultivation. Altogether 88 tribal families belonging to Kurichiyar and Kurumar attended the programme and planting materials of 22 landraces of greater yam, 6 of taro, 10 of yard-long bean, one each of okra and brinjal besides teasel gourd (Momordica subangulata subsp. renigera) were distributed along with other field inputs. The programme at Kurumar hamlet in Sultan Bathery was conducted with the support of Sultan Bathery Krishi Bhavan and Municipality. MSSRF CABC Kalpetta was associated in identifying the beneficiaries at Kurumar hamlet in Ambalawayal and Kurichyar hamlet in Athikolli. At Athikolli hamlet Scientists from CHES (ICAR-IIHR), Chethalli were also associated in the training programme on Teasel gourd cultivation and distribution of planting materials.
