ICAR-NBPGR Quinquennial Review Team (QRT) visited NBPGR Regional Station Jodhpur on 30.01.2020

ICAR-National Bureau of Plants Genetic Resources, Quinquennial Review Team (QRT) comprising Dr. M. P. Pandey, Chairman QRT, Ex-VC, BAU Ranchi & IGKVV, Raipur and Former Director CRRI, Cuttack, Dr. Bhagmal, Member QRT, Senior Consultant TAAS, Ex-Director, IGFRI, Jhansi, Dr. S.K. Kaushik, Principal Scientist, ICAR-NBPGR New Delhi and Dr. Veena Gupta Head, Division of Germplasm Conservation, ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi visited ICAR-NBPGR Regional Station Jodhpur on 30.01.2020. At the outset, Dr. Veena Gupta, welcomed the QRT chairman and members at the NBPGR Regional Station Jodhpur. Later, Dr. Kartar Singh, Scientist & Officer in Charge gave an introduction about the projects, experimental design and layout plan of rabi season crops like wheat, mustard and fenugreek. Total three sets of 224 minicore accessions of wheat were being evaluated for moisture and terminal heat stress. The accessions possessed variability for various agro-morphological traits which are useful for the breeders to select. The variability exhibited in the germplasm for different yield attributing traits were appreciated by everyone. QRT team members admired the experimental field germplasm in terms of its plant stand. QRT members also visited horticulture block of station where field gene bank is situated and 453 accessions of 49 crop species are being maintained as live crop plants. After the field visit a discussion was held with the QRT at NBPGR Jodhpur office. A detailed description about the work done in last five years and achievements made were presented by Officer In Charge. Dr. Neelam Shekhawat, Scientist shown various activities being carried out and facilities available at Station including library, laboratories and medium term storage (MTS) unit. QRT chairman and members appreciated the work being done by NBPGR Jodhpur team and further suggested improvement in the station activities. The programme ended with vote of thanks and felicitation of visiting team.
