Training-cum-exposure visit on cultivation of Kiwi and its nursery management organized by ICAR-NBPGR, RS, Bhowali

Three days training-cum-exposure visit program was organized by ICAR-NBPGR, RS, Bhowali in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Pauri Garhwal from 8th -10th March, 2021 at Bhowali station. The training was attended by 31 participants including 13 women from five Gram Panchayats of Thailisain block, district Pauri. Dr. Mamta Arya, Scientist (SS) & Officer In-Charge welcomed the trainees and gave brief introduction of the bureau and its major activities. She also explained about the role of Bhowali station regarding kiwi crop introduction, conservation and multiplication. The training was designed to cover all aspects of nursery management viz., seed extraction, stratification, sowing, transplanting and grafting as well as cultivation technique viz, layout, pit preparation, planting, training (T-bar), pruning, harvesting and storage. Mr. Nikhilesh Joshi, Branch Manager, State Bank of India, Bhowali was the chief guest of the valedictory session. In his remarks, he explained the ongoing government scheme like KCC, PMBY and also encouraged the trainees to start kiwi nursery entrepreneurship as a startup in their district.
