Two variety of Quinoa, “Him Shakti” and Kuttu (Buckwheat - “Him Phaphra”), was developed at ICAR-NBPGR, Regional Station, Shimla

Our Hon'ble PM, Shri Narendra Modi, has recently launched 35 crop varieties with special traits. One variety of Quinoa, “Him Shakti”, was developed at ICAR-NBPGR, Regional Station, Shimla along with collaborating institutes. This is the first variety of Quinoa in the country. It has high yield potential coupled with protein content (15.64%) and oil (8.91%). It is recommended for cultivation in the Northern plains, Western India and parts of the Deccan plateau.

It has high protein (13.1%) with methionine and iron (6.6 mg/100g) content. It is recommended for cultivation in the Hill region (Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir).
