ICAR-NBPGR RS Ranchi organized one day farmer’s “Awareness programme cum workshop on conservation of Plant Genetic Resources for Tribal community at Hakajang Khunti District Jharkhand” under TSP

One day awareness programme on conservation of Plant Genetic Resources was organised on 05/10/2021 at Hakajang, Khunti district, Jharkhand under Tribal Sub Plan. Total 100 tribal farmers participated in the programme. The main purpose of the event was to create awareness about the importance of conservation of local biodiversity among the tribal community.

The programme was organised with the help of Gramshabha Hakajang Khunti. The programme started with the welcome ceremony by local farmers in their traditional way. The programme then started by formal welcome of the participants and guest by Dr. Shephalika Amrapali. She explained the purpose of organising the programme and elaborated the importance of local biodiversity and how important it is to conserve them for the benefit of farming community. She also elaborated the role of ICAR-NBPGR in biodiversity conservation and its management. Further the guests Dr. Manoj Kumar Barnwal Asst. Professor BAU, Dr. Jaipal Choudhary, Scientist ICAR- NERC, Palandu Ranchi Dr. Meenu Kumari Scientist ICAR-NERC, Palandu addressed the farmers. Dr. Meenu Kumari a Vegetable scientist interacted with farmers about the cultivation of vegetables and the local vegetable available in that area. Dr. Barnawal and Dr Chaudhary explained about the management of plant pathogen and disease pest management. The programme ended with vote of thanks and distribution of small agricultural tools kit containing Karahi, spade, secateur, and sickle to 100 farmers. Technical officer Narendra Ram, Ashwini Kumar, supporting staff Vijay Kumar and Project staff Seema Horo also participated in the programme and helped in organising the programme successfully.
