National Farmers Day celebration at Issapur Farm

As part of the celebration of Swachhata Pakhwada from 16.12.2021 to 31.12.2021, The Kisan Diwas, or National Farmers' Day, is celebrated at Issapur Experimental Farm to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and farmer leader Chaudhary Charan Singh. The idea behind the celebrating the day is to express our gratitude to farmers who form the backbone of the country's economy. A total of 40 farmers participated in the programme. Dr. RK Gautam, Head, Division of Germplasm Evaluation (DGE) welcomed the farmers and informed them about idea and objective of organizing Swachhata Pakhwada at Issapur Farm. Dr. Ishwar Singh, Principal Scientist, DGE explained the procedures and benefit of compost making using farm waste. Dr. Veena Gupta, Head, Division of Germplasm Conservation has given a special lecture on conservation of traditional landraces for better future. She also invited farmers for visit to National Genebank housed at NBPGR, New Delhi. Dr. KP Mohapatra, Incharge, Field Genebank interacted with farmers and urged them to join their hands in National Campaign of Organic Farming led by our honourable Prime Minister of India. Dr. Kuldeep Tripathi, OIC, Issapur arranged a field visit to farmers and demonstrated experiments carried out at Issapur Farm. A small group of students from PG school, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi also participated in event to be benefitted with live interaction with farmers. During interactive session, farmers appreciated the efforts laid by NBPGR for conservation and promotion of plant genetic resources. Sh. BS Panwar, Farm manager proposed vote of thanks.
