Science Week Celebrations at ICAR-NBPGR, Regional Station, Hyderabad

ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBPGR), Regional Station, in collaboration with Association for Promotion of ethno-medicine and Traditional Crops Diversity (APETD), Hyderabad organised an Awareness Programme cum study tour for medicinal plants. More than 80 students belonging to II Year BUMS course, Government Nizamia Tibbi College, Hyderabad participated in the programme along with three faculty members on 26.02.2022. It has been conducted as part of Science Week celebrations by the organisation. An exhibition of the diversity in native seeds in different Agri-horticultural crops was displayed during the programme for inculcating awareness on importance and indispensability of Crop Genetic Resources. A video show on the journey of plant genetic resources organised for the benefit student community. Visit to experimental garden of the station, medium term Storage module, museum, polyhouses were arranged as part of science week celebrations. An interactive session was also arranged with Scientist, Unani specialists and students. Dr. Anitha Kodaru, Officer-in-charge, ICAR-NBPGR, RS, Hyderabad, Dr N Sivaraj, Principal Scientist, Dr Syed Touheed Ahmed, President, APTED, Dr Mohd. Najeeb Khan, Vice-President, Md. Abbas Ali Khan, General Secretary, Dr. P. Pranusha, Scientist, Ms. S. Nivedhitha, Scientist, spoke on the importance and conservation of medicinal plants diversity. Ms. Tasneem Fatima, Dr. G. Suresh Kumar, Md, Jameeluddin Saad and Mohd Saif Ali were also present and made arrangements for the visit of Second year BUMS students to ICAR-NBPGR, RS. Students and faculty members were awarded Certificates by the dignitaries present on the occasion. A series of similar kind of awareness programmes cum study visits are being planned for the benefit of college students in and around Hyderabad in near future.
