Germplasm Field day on Arid legumes was organized at ICAR-NBPGR, Regional Station Jodhpur on 22nd September 2022

ICAR-NBPGR Regional Station, Jodhpur organised a germplasm field day for arid legumes on 22nd September, 2022. Total 20 researchers participated in the event from 08 organisations i.e. Agricultural University, Jodhpur, ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Jodhpur, Rajasthan Agricultural Research Institute, Jaipur, Botanical Survey of India, Jai Narayan University, Jodhpur, and KVK, Jodhpur and ICAR-ATARI, Jodhpur. At the outset, Dr Vijay Singh Meena, Senior Scientist & Officer-in-Charge welcomed all the participants and briefed the germplasm evaluation status of arid legumes being carried out at the station. Dr S. D. Ratnoo, Director Research, AU Jodhpur, Dr D. Kumar, Rtd. Principal Scientist ICAR-CAZRI Jodhpur, Dr. N. K. Dwivedi, Former Officer Incharge ICAR-NBPGR RS Jodhpur are the eminent person shared their views during inaugural session . Dr. Ratnoo emphasized the importance of germplasm for its effective utilization for the enhancement of productivity & quality of arid legumes. Dr. D. Kumar highlighted the importance of arid legumes in national interest. He emphasized the researcher for working in coordination with farmers field need and identifies the trait specific germplasm for each crop. Later on, participant brought to experimental field areas of the station where live variability was shown of different arid lugumes crop by Dr. Vijay Singh Meena, Dr. Kartar and Dr. Neelam Shekhawat. The participants were exposed to variability in legumes germplasm for different traits such as early maturity, erect habit, no. of pods per plant, pod length etc. All the participants assessed on spot variability/ traits to be utilized in their ongoing crop improvement programmes as well as direct release of variety for the farmer. During feedback and interaction session, the participants appreciated the efforts of ICAR-NBPGR, RS Jodhpur in showcasing the diversity at appropriate stage and farmers also shared their experiences about the arid legumes cultivation and how this event will help them for understanding the variability of germplasm of different crops & how the germplasm can be useful to them as they need nutrients rich produce from the farm. The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Kartar Singh.
