ICAR-NBPGR Regional Station Srinagar has organized a PGR awareness camp/ Biodiversity fair at Sankoo Kargil (Ladakh) on October 10, 2015

PGR Awareness Camp/ Biodiversity Fair was organized under TSP programme at Sankoo Kargil (Ladakh) on 10th October 2015 with the help of Mountain Agricultural Research and Extension Station (MARES), SKUAST (K) Kargil.   Two hundred farmers attended the camp including 25 women. Syed Abbas Rizvi, Councillor, Ladakh Hill Development Council (LHDC), Sankoo area was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr Sheikh M Sultan, Officer-in-Charge in his welcome address presented a detailed introduction about ICAR-NBPGR and the objectives of conducting the camp. Scientists from MARES Kargil including Dr Faizan Ahmad, Incharge and three experts from KVK Kargil delivered the lectures and interacted with farmers about local PGR; their importance, advantages and need for their protection. Two experts from KVK Kargil communicated with farmers in local language. Some local farmers also spoke on the occasion. Farmers attended the camp with great enthusiasm and listened to the scientists with great interest. The Chief Guest termed the event as historical as no such camp had ever been organized in the entire area and appreciated the efforts of ICAR-NBPGR Regional Station Srinagar. Local people also appreciated the efforts for organizing this ‘wonderful and informative’ camp and were highly thankful to ICAR-NBPGR.

During the camp 200 sets of petty agricultural implements were distributed among the farmers.
