Germplasm Field day on Pulse Crops was Organized on 15th October 2016

The germplasm field day on pulse crops was organized on 15th October 2016 and was attended by 50 scientists from 8 State Agricultural Universities and 2 ICAR institutes. Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Director, ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi inaugurated the function and extended warm welcome to the delegates. He emphasized the importance of organizing field days so that scientists may assess and examine the variability on the spot and interact with experts from different areas of research for enhancing the use of germplasm in crop improvement. Dr. J.C. Rana, Head, Germplasm Evaluation Division urged the participants for making best use of genetic diversity available in the field at NBPGR. All the scientists visited the both the experimental farms of NBPGR, (Issapur and IARI campus) where in germplasm of mungbean (4,253 acc.), cowpea (1,910 acc.) and urdbean (2,144 acc.) were grown. The scientists selected the germplasm for various traits and during discussions it was found that traits like early maturity and resistance to biotic and abiotic stress were much sought by plant breeders. The field day was concluded with vote of thanks by N.K. Gautam.
