Visit of Dr. Amita Prasad, Additional Secretary, MoEF&CC, Govt. of India and Chairperson, GEAC accompanied by Ms. Rachel Omukatia Muyonga on 21 March, 2017 at ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi

1. Dr. Amita Prasad and Ms. Omukatia Muyonga Rachel visited ICAR-NBPGR on 21 March, 2017 from 4.00PM to 6.30 PM.

2. Ms. Rachel Omukatia Muyonga, Consultant, Policy and Legislative Affairs Consultant, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is in India to undertake a review and codification of lessons learnt and best practices of the UNEP/GEF supported Phase II Capacity Building Project on Biosafety being implemented by MoEF&CC.

3. The visit to ICAR-NBPGR was also in line with the objective to capture best practices, lessons learnt and make recommendations on sustainability and mainstreaming of biosafety into national process. In that context both Dr. Prasad amd Ms Muyonga interacted with project partners at ICAR-NBPGR handling implementation of Phase-II Biosafety Project activities.

4. The newly operational GM Detection Research Facility alongwith the Division of Plant Quarntine and Containment Facility were especially visited where the project incharges and senior scientists acquainted the visitors with the scale, scope and functionality of the operational research and development capacities.
