ICAR-NBPGR-Regional Station Hyderabad Participation in Celebrations for International Biological Diversity (IDB) organized by the Telangana State Biodiversity Board, Hyderabad

The United Nations has proclaimed May 22nd as the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness on Biodiversity issues. It is contemplated to celebrate the same during the year 2017 with a Theme - “Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism”. To commemorate the IDB with an intention to reiterate about conservation and sustaining Biodiversity with particular reference to Telangana State, TSBDB invited all the stakeholders of Biodiversity for the function and also encouraged to put up Exhibition Stalls.

The event was held at B.M.Birla Science Centre Complex, Bhaskara Auditorium, Hyderabad. The Chief Guest was Padmashri.Dr.E.A.Siddiq, Former DDG (CS), who inaugurated the exhibition. He was accompanied by Dr.R.Hampaiah, Former Chairman, Andhra Pradesh Biodiversity Board, who is the Guest of Honour. The other dignitaries include, Sri.P.Raghuveer, APCCF/ Director, Telangana Forest Academy, Dulapally, Hyderabad and Sri.A.K.Srivastava, PCCF/ Chairman, Telangana State Biodiversity Board, Hyderabad. There were representatives from ICAR/ CSIR/ BSI/ ZSI/ ANGRAU/ NGOs/ Nature lovers/ Wild life enthusiasts etc.

NBPGR Regional Station, Hyderabad being an important partner organization in the conservation of PGR, had put up an Exhibition Stall displaying seed/ landrace diversity in different Agri-horticultural crops viz. Rice/ Paddy/ Pigeon pea/ Green gram/ Black gram/ Cowpea/ Dolichos bean/ Field bean and medicinal plants (Acorus calamus, Aerva lanata, Andrographis paniculata, Asparagus recemosus, Centella asiatica, Cissus quadrangularis, Coleus amboinicus, Costus speciosus, Hemidesmus indicus, Mimosa pudica, Piper longum, Piper nigrum, Plumbago indica, Rauvolfia serpentina, Vitex negundo) and Posters (Importance and need of conservation of Agri-biodiverity/ Registration of Farmers Varieties in PPVFRA/ Procedure for Germplasm Registration etc..) in Telugu which was well received and visited by all dignitaries/ school children/ media etc..
