Exploration

  • Total 39 explorations were conducted in diversity rich remote parts of 20 states of India and more than 2600 germplasm samples comprising of crop landraces (rice, wheat, barley, maize, buckwheat, amaranth, chenopod, millets, pulses/grains, oil seeds, fibre crops, spices, vegetables, M&AP etc), wild relatives of crops, wild edible economic plants were collected.

On farm, in-situ conservation

  • Assessment of on-farm crop diversity study was conducted in parts of Dehradun, Tehri and Uttarkashi districts of Uttarakhand to identify the local crops/ landraces erosion and possibility of their repatriation.

New plant uses recorded and collected

  • New plants use viz.: Plukenetia corniculata (meetha patta) as leafy vegetables; Stahlianthus involucratus as medicinal plants and Tubocapsicum anomalum a crop wild relative of chilli from North-eastern Region, India were identified, collocated and conserved.

Germplasm evaluation and characterization

  • Over 7000 germplasm of various field and horticultural crops were characterized and evaluated and promising with desired traits accessions were identified.
  • Germplasm of maize for multi-cob character and small cucumber for yellow flash were registered with ICAR-NBPGR.

In-situ habitat conservation of wild rice species

  • In-situ habitat of wild rice species were surveyed initiated in Sonitpur district of Assam and in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh for long-term protection and conservation.
