Salient Achievements:

DNA Fingerprinting and Diversity Analysis:

Involved in the establishment of DNA fingerprinting (cereal and millets) facilities at ICAR-NBPGR. SSR markers were identified for DNA fingerprinting of wheat, barley, sorghum, pearl millet, finger millet, little millet and foxtail millet.

DNA fingerprinting services are regularly provided to private and public sector organizations in millets.

Characterization of sorghum, pearl millet, finger millet, kodo millet, proso millet, barnyard millet, foxtail millet, little millet based on molecular markers (SSR, RAPD, ISSR, SRAP, AFLP and SCoT) as well as morpho-physiological traits was conducted to study the level of genetic diversity/genetic relationship/population structure/hybrid purity testing in these crops.

Molecular marker characterization studies were also carried out in Luffa, bottle gourd, mung bean, brinjal, water melon, rice, French bean and Morinda spp.

Identification of SRAP markers linked to the single dominant resistance gene against Tomato Leaf Curl New Delhi Virus in Luffa cylindrica Roem. Cloning and characterization of NBS-LRR encoding resistance gene candidates from Tomato Leaf Curl New Delhi Virus resistant genotype (DSG-6) of Luffa cylindrica Roem.

Characterized more than 1600 accessions of little millet conserved at NGB for different morphological traits

Generation of Genomic Resources:

EST-SSR markers were generated in finger millet, little millet and kodo millet. Leaf transcriptome data was generated in little millet, finger millet and kodo millet and their Bioprojects are available on NCBI: little millet (Panicum sumatrense; Bioproject ID: PRJNA267462), finger millet (Eleusine coracana; Bioproject ID: PRJNA268401) and kodo millet (Paspalum scrobiculatum; Bioproject ID: PRJNA278353).
