A meeting on DNA fingerprinting was organized at   ICAR-NBPGR under the chairmanship of Dr. T. Mohapatra, DG, ICAR and Secretary, DARE to discuss and set a roadmap for DNA fingerprinting of varieties of agri-horticultural crops. Eminent scientists and experts in the area from various ICAR institutes and other institutes/ organizations including Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority, New Delhi, Department of Agriculture & Co-operation (DAC), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, New Delhi and Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), Hyderabad dealt on various dimensions of DNA fingerprinting. Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Director, ICAR-NBPGR set the tone for the meeting. Dr. DP Kasbekar, Coordinator,   DNAFP Unit, CDFD, Hyderabad briefed the gathering on human DNA Fingerprinting. Other eminent panelists included Dr AK Singh, DDG (CS & HS), Dr. DK Yadava, ADG (Seed), Dr. NK Singh, National Professor & Director, ICAR-NRCPB, New Delhi, Dr. AK Singh, Head, Division of Genetics, IARI, New Delhi, Dr. Sanjeev Saxena, ADG, IPTM & PME, ICAR, New Delhi, Dr. T. Radhakrishnan, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Groundnut Research, Junagarh, Dr. Sujay Rakshit, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Maize Research, Ludhiana, Dr. KV Bhat, Ex-Principal Scientist, ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi, Dr. SR Bhat, Emeritus Scientist, ICAR-NRCPB, New Delhi and Dr. DK Srivastava, Assistant Commissioner (QC), DAC&FW, New Delhi. The meeting ended with formal vote of thanks by Dr. GJ Randhawa, OIC, Division of Genomic Resources, ICAR-NBPGR, New Delhi.
