ICAR-NBPGR RS Jodhpur organized One day awareness programme cum workshop on conservation of Plant Genetic Resources for nutritional and livelihood security of tribal farming community at Kolyari village of Jhadol Block in Udaipur, Rajasthan

One day awareness programme cum workshop on conservation of Plant Genetic Resources for nutritional and livelihood security of tribal farming community was successfully organized under TSP programme at Kolyari village of Jhadol Block in Udaipur District, Rajasthan. The programme was organized with the help of Vidya Bhawan Krishi Vigyan Kendra (VbKVK), Badgaon, Udaipur. The main purpose of the event was to educate the tribals about the importance of conservation of landraces/ local cultivars and protection of endangered species of crops of that area, so that the conservation of this priceless treasure can be done by the farmers for the farmers and ultimately for the country.

Shri Nanalal, President of Vikas Sansthan, Kolyari was chief guest of the event. The workshop was inaugurated by the Tilak of the guests by villagers. After welcoming, Dr. Omvir Singh, OIC, NBPGR RS Jodhpur gave detailed information about ICAR-NBPGR and the objectives of the programme. He explained to the farmers about agro-biodiversity available in Rajasthan. Shri Nanalal talked about rarely cultivated traditional crops of that area. Dr. P.C. Bhatnagar, Senior Subject Matter Specialist, VbKVK, Badgaon interacted with farmers about local cultivars and need of their protection. Dr. Kartar Singh (Scientist, NBPGR RS Jodhpur), Dr. Deepak Jain (Subject Matter Specialist, Plant Protection, VbKVK Badgaon) and Dr. Bahadur Singh (Farm Manager, VbKVK Badgaon) also spoke on the occasion and termed the event highly informative. At the end of the workshop Dr. Neelam Shekhawat (Scientist, NBPGR RS Jodhpur) proposed vote of thanks to the guests and farmers. The agricultural tools kit containing maize sheller, spade, hand weeder and sickle were distributed to 330 farmers.
