Tree plantation week / Van Mahotsava at ISSAPUR Farm, NBPGR, New Delhi

During first week of July 2019 tree plantation week celebrated at NBPGR, Experimental station, Issapur. The festival of tree plantation was started during 1950 by Dr. K.M. Munshi, the then Union Minister for Agriculture and Food to create enthusiasm among masses for and planting trees. This plantation drive was actively participated by NBPGR staff, farmers of village Issapur and Manjri. Dr Ashok Kumar, Head, DGE, welcomed all farmers and briefed about NBPGR activities being followed by bureau. He highlights the need of planting to prevent global warming. Dr. Vijay Singh Meena, Incharge, Issapur Farm highlighted about importance of planting of saplings. He urged for improving biodiversity and living in harmony with nature. He encouraged local farmers for planting more saplings in monsoon season in their villages for maintaining ecological balance and reduces carbon footprints for sustainable environment. He also requested farmers for participatory approach for conservation of diverse plant species. A record was maintained by planter’s name during planting.
