The Germplasm Field Day on Moth bean, Mung bean, Cow pea and Cluster bean was organized at ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR), Regional Station, Jodhpur on 21st September, 2019. The field day was attended by a number of participants including scientists from different organizations namely Central Arid Zone Research Institute Jodhpur; Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Agricultural University Jodhpur, NBPGR Headquarters New Delhi and the farmers from arid legumes growing areas of Rajasthan. Dr. Om Vir Singh, Principal Scientist & OIC of Regional Station welcomed participants and informed about the germplasm being maintained at the Station and also stressed on how this station will help the development of variety for commercial cultivation by farmers of the Western Rajasthan. He emphasized the importance of germplasm for its effective utilization for the enhancement of productivity & quality of arid legumes and millets. Dr. Kartar Singh & Dr. Neelam Shekhawat Scientists of the station accompanied the participants for field visit and also provided information related to germplasm of arid legumes. All the participants assessed on spot variability/ traits to be utilized in their ongoing crop improvement programmes as well as direct release of variety for the farmer. During feedback and interaction session, the participants appreciated the efforts of ICAR-NBPGR, RS Jodhpur in showcasing the diversity at appropriate stage and farmers also shared their experiences about the arid legumes cultivation and how this event will help them for understanding the variability of germplasm of different crops & how the germplasm can be useful to them as they need nutrients rich produce from the farm. The Field Day was ended with the vote of thanks to the participants.
