Biodiversity Fair cum Plant Genetic Resources Awareness Camp organised by Regional Station Shillong at Hayuliang, Anjaw (Arunachal Pradesh)

NBPGR Regional Station Shillong, Umiam in collaboration KVK, Anjaw organized Biodiversity Fair cum Plant Genetic Resources Awareness Camp at Hayuliang village of Anjaw District on 20th March 2020. The programme was attended by 130 farmers of Mizu/Digaru Mishmi tribal community. The program started early in the morning with registration. The welcome address was given by Dr. Manish Kanwat, Senior Scientist & Head KVK, Anjaw. Dr. Harish G.D, Scientist & OIC, RS Shillong delivered a lecture on “Importance of local landraces of NEH region and activities of NBPGR Regional Station Shillong in conserving germplasm”. Dr. Sandhya Gupta, Principal Scientist, NBPGR New Delhi gave a talk on “Role of ICAR-NBPGR in Conservation of Germplasm at National Level”. Dr. Julius Uchoi, Scientist NBPGR RS Shillong spoke on “Conservation of underutilized Horticultural crops and their importance”. The Chief Guest Mr. R.P Upadhyaya, DGP, Arunachal Pradesh, while addressing the gathering, he stressed on harmful effects of opium cultivation and consumption on society. Mr. Habung Hailyang, S.P Anjaw was also present during the meeting. Exhibition of local germplasm and farmer scientist interaction was moderated by Dr. Santosh Kumar, SMS, Animal Science, KVK, Anjaw. The programme concluded with distribution of farmer kits to the attendee by Chief Guest and vote of thanks by Dr. Julius Uchoi.
