NBPGR organized a training programme on management of PGR in Jaintia Hills of Meghalays

A training programme on importance, conservation and utilization of genetic resources of horticultural crops was successfully conducted at Ummulong village of West Jaintia Hills on 21st December,2022 under TSP-Tribal Sub-plan. The programme was organized in collaboration with KVK, West Jaintia Hills, and ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Barapani, Meghalaya. Total of 165 farmers, comprising of 114 female farmers and 51 male farmers belonging to Jaintia Tribal community participated in this programme. Dr. Julius Uchoi, Officer-in-Charge, Regional station of NBPGR, speak on the importance and conservation of Plant Genetic Resources and its future implication on agriculture. Dr. Heiplanmi Rymbai, Scientist, SS(Horticulture), ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region delivered lecture on canopy management and technology in enhancing fruit production in Meghalaya. Scientists of the KVK, West Jaintia Hills; Smt. Risakaru Lyngdoh, SMS (Agronomy) delivered lecture on millets: the neglected nutria-cereals; Smt. Marbaingdor Mawlong, SMS (Plant Pathology) gave lecture on natural farming; Smt. Alethea Dympep, SMS, (Agril. Extension) talk on the schemes of the government like setting up of custom hiring centres at Village level. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks to all participants. Farm tools such as spade, sickle, secateur, watering cane including bags, pen and notepad were distributed to them.
