Salient Achievements:
  • Rendered quarantine service to more than 50 organisations in South India. Examined over 11,00,000 samples of germplasm meant for export and import to give quarantine clearance which include the material meant for International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), CIMMYT(ICRISAT campus), AVRDC (ICRISAT campus), Universities, other Research Institutes and Private sectors
  • Intercepted several important fungal and bacterial pathogens on varied crop germplasm introduced from countries all over the world. Some of them were Alternaria helianthi, Botrytis cinerea on sunflower from Serbia Montenegro; Peronospora manshurica on soybean from USA, Canada; Pseudomonas syringae on tomato from AVRDC, Taiwan; Ralstonia solanacearum on groundnut from Brazil, Australia, Niger, USA, Zimbabwe etc.; Alternaria radicina, A. dauci and  Rhizoctonia solani on carrot from USA; Colletotrichum dematium on okra from AVRDC, Taiwan and Botrytis alii, and Alternaria porii on onion from USA.
  • Developed suitable detection methodology against Ralstonia solanacearum, a bacterial wilt pathogen of groundnut, using semi-specific Tetrazolium chloride agar (TZCA) medium.
  • Treatment schedules developed to control grain molds and Colletotrichum graminicola from sorghum seed, Rhizoctonia bataticola from groundnut seeds and smut (Moesziomyces penicillariae) from pearl millet seed.
  • Promising Genetic Stocks (03 genetic stocks) were co-developed and registered with Indian Council of Agricultural Research for unique traits in agri-horticultural crops viz., Chilli, and Dolichos bean.
  • Published over 115 publications consisting of Journal articles & Book Chapters; books; Professional abstracts; Popular articles, flyer, brochures.
     
Awards/Honours:
  • National Merit Scholarship, 1978 to 1984
  • ICAR Junior Research fellowship, 1984 to 1986
  • Awarded Silver Jubilee Gold medal for women in recognition of the best doctoral thesis for the academic year 1998-1999.
  • Fellow of “Plant Protection Association of India”
  • Member, Management Advisory Committee of Central Tobacco Research Institute, Rajahmundry.
  • Distinguished Scientist Award” by the Venus International Foundation, Chennai, India for the year 2015.
  • Awarded NFP Fellowship by NUFFIC, Wageningen UR, Netherlands, 2016 
  • Received recognition for the services provided to the Plant Protection Association of India as “Chief Editor” for the period 2014-2016 during the National Conference held at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh during February 2016.
  • Served as Editorial Committee member (2001), Treasurer (Executive Council Member) 2002-2004, Editor (2004-2010), Chief Editor (2014-15) and General Secretary (2015-2017) of  Indian Journal of Plant Protection (abstracted by CABI), a prestigious periodical published by the Plant Protection Association of India since 1973.
