Salient Achievements:
  • Intercepted destructive pests such as Acanthoscelides obtectus, Bruchus dentipes, B. ervi, Callosobruchus subinnotatus, Trogoderma variabile, etc. which are not yet reported from India
  • Developed digitized keys and database for taxonomic identification of insect pests belonging to Family Bruchidae of quarantine significance. Digital Library on Bruchids Launched on web in June 2011 (available at http://202.141.12.150/bruchid-library/)
  • Developed disinfestation technology for lifting the import ban imposed on mangoes from India due to fruit flies– melon fly and oriental fruit fly using vapour heat treatment 
  • Compiled information on potential quarantine insect and mite pests for India for cereals (6 species), grain legumes (39 species), edible oilseeds (16 species), Tropical and subtropical fruits (39 species) as a ready reckoner for quarantine personnel
  • Coordinated and undertook pest risk analysis (PRA) for 140 crop species for notification under the PQ Order 2003 and 65 new plant species for first time import of PGR.
  • Analysed policy issues in biosecurity and biosafety, pest risk analysis in the wake of WTO/ SPS, Invasive Alien Species and other related phytosanitary issues to Ministries of Agriculture, Environment & Forests, Commerce & Industry, Defence and Home Affairs.
  • Teaching under PGR 509 (Plant Biosecurity), PGR 502 (Exchange and Plant Quarantine) and SST-516 (Plant Quarantine) courses of PG School, IARI
  • Training on Biosafety Considerations for Transgenic Plants (Co-convenor, 2005, 2006 & 2007); Winter School on Biosecurity and Biosafety at NBPGR, New Delhi (Convenor, 2009); Training on Diagnostic Methods for Pests of Planting Material and their Management (Convenor, 2011)
