Salient Achievements:
  • Weed Risk Assessment system: Developed Weed Risk Assessment system to assess invasiveness and weediness of plant species to facilitate weed free introduction of germplasm.
  • Standardization of package of practices: Standardized package of practices for giloe and satavar.
  • Plant Quarantine regulations: Drafted Plant Quarantine (Regulation of Import into India) Order 2003
  • Interception and identification of exotic weeds: A number of exotic weed seeds were intercepted and identified and thus prevented introduction of exotic weeds into India.
  • Teaching: Teaching Weed Science part of PGR-502 (Germplasm Exchange and Plant Quarantine) course to the M. Sc. and Ph. D. students of PG School of ICAR-IARI, New Delhi.
  • Advanced training: Coordinated various trainings pertaining to plant quarantine and other advanced training on weed seed identification and weed risk assessment.
  • Testing and popularization of technologies: On-farm testing of various agronomical technologies were undertaken and popularized through front line demonstrations at farmers fields.
  • Resources person:  Vichar gosthi in Kisan melas, trainings, radio and TV talks.
  • Projects completed/ongoing:  Completed ICAR-CABI collaborative project entitled Study    of biological control of invasive plant species and Indian natural enemies viz., Component A: Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera).

  • Fellowship: FAO fellowship to visit Australia for advanced training in the area of weed seed identification and weed risk assessment.
